Ryzen 5000G APU: Will It be Available for Retail in 2022?

If you want to know when the Ryzen 5000G APU will come out, you will be glad to know that – it has already launched on April 13, 2021.

But don’t get your hopes up.

For now, AMD has launched the Ryzen 5000G APU only for pre-build systems. Meaning, they can be only obtained as part of a pre-build system.

Yes, we know it sucks, especially during the period of GPU shortage.

Ryzen 5000 APU release date: Will AMD follow the same trend again?

Do you know?

APU stands for Accelerated Processing Unit

Just as there are many facts to consider when buying a motherboard, there are also facts to consider when it comes to processors. Back in the mid-2020, AMD began to produce APUs by initiating the Ryzen 4000 series. These are characteristically excellent for their integrated graphics and high-performance Zen 2 cores.

Sadly, these APUs can’t be bought for your custom PC. AMD has applied restrictions on buying these parts only to OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer). While these APUs are perfectly compatible with any motherboards, they can be obtained only for pre-build systems.

– But will AMD change the trend for the Ryzen 5000 APUs?

We are hearing the Ryzen 5000G APUs will be available on the market later this year and it will not be for pre-build systems, rather as a retail component.

With that being said, AMD did launch 2000G and 3000G APUs at retail. But will it apply to the 5000G APUs? We will see.

Everything you need to know about the AMD Ryzen 5000G APU

The Ryzen 5000G APU is more powerful than its previous versions. Compared to the previous Zen and Zen 2 cores, this APU is bringing the Zen 3 cores. Then again, the Vega 8 graphics were used which was also in the 4000G series.

On top of that, the Ryzen 5000 APU is built on TSMC’s 7nm process, which makes it excellent for regular builds and gaming rigs.

Here is an overview of the AMD Ryzen 5000 series APUs –

The top processor is the Ryzen 7 5000G with a 65W TDP (Thermal Design Power). In accordance with that, the Ryzen 3 5300GE remains at the bottom.

Is there any difference between Ryzen G and Ryzen GE APU?

As you can see, some of the APUs have G and some of them have GE beside the model number. While the G models focus on 65W TDP, the GE variants target running on 35W TDP. This means they are more power-consuming.

Surprisingly, the GE APUs are already integrating inside Dell’s pre-built gaming systems.

Acceptable chipsets for the Ryzen 5000G

The new 5000G processors are compatible with the X570, B550, and A520 motherboards. This information is confirmed by AMD. Depending on the manufacturer, X470 and B450 motherboards may also support the Ryzen 5000 processors.

AMD Ryzen 5000 processors

Note:

If you are lucky enough to get one of the Ryzen 5000 series APUs from the open market, you will need special BIOS (beta) setup to enable full performance.

The Ryzen 7 processor is still one of the top-notch processors right now. Perhaps, you will be interested to know about the best motherboards for the Ryzen 7 processor.

Summary

We’ll see if the latest Ryzen 5000G comes to retail later this year or not. Due to the growing demand for GPUs, both interim buyers and budget builders are looking for something like the Ryzen 5000 series processor.

AMD has been manufacturing processors that are great combinations of CPUs and GPUs. And these processors are available at reasonable prices compared to the pricer Intel processors. It is frustrating to know that AMD has kept such great products from the spotlight. So, if AMD doesn’t change the current regulations for selling the new Ryzen 5000G processors, they will hand over most customers to Intel.
